It’s a movie, it’s a dream
There’s a screen
Where today becomes tomorrow
There’s a car and a plane
There’s a train
Making stops at all our sorrows
There’s a fountain in a truck stop
Where the kids stop
To make wishes with their quarters
While we wait for the shower
Every hour
Another trip across the border
I came in
Through the screen door
Like I knew where I was going
Ran down the sand dune
To the water
Just in time to see it glowing
There was sadness
In the sunlight
As I threw the final pitches
And I looked up
In the window
To see someone washing dishes
It’s a movie, it’s a dream
In this scene
We’re not sure what’s gonna happen
There are choices to be made
In the shade
I could swear I saw her laughing
As she took off all her clothes
And then she rose
And took another bite of apple
And I saw I had one too
And then I knew
We were kneeling in the chapel
On the platform
We were waving
As we squinted in the sunlight
As the faces
Brushed before me
I knew all that wasn’t done right
Little children
Making faces
A their laughter turned to crying
I said, “Cheer up
It’s ok now
It’s not like anybody’s dying”
I walked slowly
To the basement
And I could only beg for mercy
I found water
In the kitchen
And I drank ‘cause I was thirsty
At the table
Sat a family
With a glow upon their faces
And I broke down
Drawing pictures
Running round and round the bases
I could see him
At the old house
And he looked like he was taller
We took the back way
To the drugstore
Clutching tight to our last dollar
We ate ice cream
In a spotlight
As the sunset hit the canyon
And the bike path
Led to beaches
And the rocks where we were standing
And we looked out
At the lighthouse
As it stood upon the nightstand
Put the bookmark
In the story
‘Cause I don’t want it to end
I came in
Through the screen door
Like I knew where I was going
